My Dad has been successfully fighting End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) for nearly 14 years. Over the years I witnessed a man who is tough and selfless. It is not surprising that when my mother, siblings and I ask him what we can get him on occasions such as Father's Day, Birthdays, Christmas, etc., he always replies, "Nothing, I have everything I could want." Therefore, what exactly do you give the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Dad who has "everything he could want?" Love, lots of love! That is a gift my Dad never has enough of, and is delighted in receiving it.
Being a father is a difficult job for any man but for my Dad suffering with ESRD for most of my sister's, brother's, and my life it was doubly difficult and he handled his responsibilities manfully. Just imagine taking on such a role with all the symptoms which come with CKD, and never once have I seen him feel sorry for himself or shy away from co-leading our family along with his loving wife - my mother.
That is why when I graduated from college, I could think of nothing better to do with the skills I have attained but to establish KidneyBuzz.com which provides information to other individuals suffering with CKD to help them better manage their lives. For me, it is a way to help other members of the community, arising from the love and affection I hold for my father. Thank you Dad for all the sacrifices you have made and continue to make for our family. I love you for everything you do, but most of all for being you.
