Many Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis patients struggle in maintaining their fluid intake. It is even more difficult when they do not know what drinks they can enjoy and others that they should not consume. Since patients want to avoid dangerously high potassium (5.1 mEq/L or more) as well as terribly low potassium (less than 3.5 mEq/L), drinking juice can assist in maintaining potassium levels within a safe range (3.5 - 5.0 mEq/L) as well as build the immune system and heart health. Refer to the following list for to best juices for Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis patients as well as juice options to avoid:

Pickle Juice: Pickles are cucumbers that have been fermented in a brine (solution of salt) made of water, according to SFGate.com. While pickles and their juice byproduct typically contain small amounts of potassium, Pickle Juice is said to be a High Sodium Food for Chronic Kidney Disease patients. However, after Dialysis has removed high levels of sodium from a patient's body, a little Pickle Juice does wonders to add back in necessary sodium lost as well as help Chronic Kidney Disease patients avoid life hampering cramps.

Orange Juice: Both orange juice and prune juice have been found to be high in potassium levels. This can cause heart complications and other major issues in Dialysis patients. If you want a similar flavor then try apple or grape juice instead which have a lower potassium content when enjoyed in moderation.

Apple Juice: A great substitute for orange juice, apple juice is a lower potassium drink. Dialysis patients can also enjoy apple cider as a great non-alcoholic drink alternative.

Grapefruit Juice: High in potassium, grapefruit juice is typically avoided by Dialysis patients because it can have negative interactions with common medicines and lead to dangerously elevated levels of potassium.

Pomegranate Juice: For Chronic Kidney Disease patients, study authors suggested that "drinking a controlled amount of pomegranate juice with a safe and monitored content of potassium may help reduce the complications that often occur in Dialysis patients," including limiting infections, protecting against Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and reducing the high Cardiovascular (Heart) mortality rates in Chronic Kidney Disease patients.

Cranberry Juice: Considered a safe drink for Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis patients, cranberries provide a wide variety of benefits including antioxidants for protection against high blood pressure, high cholesterol, as well as lots of vitamin C and other antioxidant properties that are beneficial in the fight against heart disease and stroke.
