UPDATE: Immediate action is necessary from Chronic Kidney Disease Patients as well as their loved ones in order to continue to support extending the Medicare coverage of Immunosuppressant (Anti-Rejection) medication with the passage of the Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act (H.R. 6139). Re-introduced to Congress on September 22nd, Predictgov.com surprisingly suggested that the bill has a "1% chance of being enacted." H.R. 6139 has failed before, and the Chronic Kidney Disease Community must collectively stand together to do everything that we can to ensure that this bill passes Congress and is enacted.
Predictgov.com provides updated predictions for the more than 9,000 bills currently under consideration, assigning each a chance of passing. This allows patients insights so that action can be taken to support the bill before it is rejected.

The bill has been assigned to the House Ways and Means committee which will consider it before possibly sending it on to the House or Senate as a whole, according to GovTrack. Do not stay silent. Let's continue to push to pass Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act (H.R. 6139) which will help thousands of patients receive and maintain their Kidney Transplants! Sign and share the below petition. If you have already signed and shared it, then please re-share on Facebook, Twitter, and via Email. It is important that we get as many names in support of this bill as we can to let Congress know that this H.R. 6139 is of high importance to the Chronic Kidney Disease Community.
ORIGINAL: Less than 17,000 Chronic Kidney Disease patients receive a Kidney Transplant every year. That is the equivalent of a small handful of the massive, slow-moving Kidney Transplant Waiting List that numbers over 100,000 patients in desperate need of a Kidney Transplant. What's worse, even if a patient is fortunate enough to receive a Kidney Transplant, Medicare only covers their very expensive and vital Immunosuppressant (Anti-Rejection) medication for three years (thirty-six months) following their Kidney Transplant. As a result, Chronic Kidney Disease patients often face the stress and challenge of finding affordable coverage that allows them to obtain the costly required medications to maintain their new kidney or watch their kidney fail and return to Dialysis. For many years patients have said how this rule was unfair and harmful to Kidney Transplant Recipients directly, and others awaiting a Kidney Transplant indirectly since patients with a failed Kidney Transplant are re-added to the list - further increasing wait times. Now, KidneyBuzz.com encourages the Chronic Kidney Disease Community to come together and stand against this damaging rule by signing the following petition in support of the passage of the Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act (H.R. 6139)!
Congressional Representatives have re-introduced H.R. 6139 to "serve as a safety net by assisting Kidney Transplant Recipients to obtain the life-saving Immunosuppressive Medications that are necessary to maintain the viability of their new transplant," said the National Kidney Foundation. Again, it is important to note that although the passage of the Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act would help to prevent many Chronic Kidney Disease patients from returning to Dialysis, it also prevents patients from having to be relisted on the Kidney Transplant Waiting List - offering other Chronic Kidney Disease patients less of a wait on the list.

By supporting lifetime immunosuppressive coverage, Congress will help improve long-term transplant outcomes, reduce the number of kidney patients who require another transplant and enable more patients to choose transplantation. Kevin Longino (CEO of the National Kidney Foundation) said, “Extending Medicare coverage of immunosuppressive drugs for Kidney Transplant Recipients is a critical step to ensuring a patient’s best chance of success post-transplant.”
The goal must be to keep Chronic Kidney Disease patients healthy and provide them with the higher quality of life which they desire so that they may live life on their terms. This Act had previously failed to pass. Hence, we need your support now more than ever. If you are suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease, including those on Dialysis or a loved one of a patient, then we need to hear your voice. Please take a few seconds out of your day to sign and share (via Social Media, Email, and Physical Print) the below petition in order to tell Congress that you support the Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act (H.R. 6139) to help Transplant Recipients keep their access to Anti-Rejection Medications which they need to maintain their healthy kidney function!
