"It seems impossible for me to receive a Kidney Transplant. Although my daughter and good friend are willing, their insurance does not cover ANY of the costs, and mine does not reimburse them for time off of work." A KidneyBuzz.com viewer wrote, "Do you have any advice?"

The National Living Donor Assistance Center (NLDAC) is not a well known name to most in the Chronic Kidney Disease Community even among those who are actively seeking a Kidney Transplant. You may be surprised to learn that many individuals who desire to become a Living Kidney Donor for family, friends or strangers cannot, because they simply can't afford expenses which are not already covered by insurance. How unfortunate that a few non-reimbursed expenses may make many Living Donations impossible?
Hence, NLDAC was established in 2006 to provide greater access to Living Organ Donation including Kidney Transplantation for people who want to donate, but cannot cover the travel and other expenses associated with Living Donation. What a great program! Did you know about it? Allow me to share a bit more.
According to its website, "This program is administered by the Division of Transplantation (DoT), Healthcare Systems Bureau (HSB), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), United States Health and Human Services (HHS) through a cooperative agreement with the University of Michigan (UM) and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS)."
Qualifying expenses for Living Kidney Donors may include travel, lodging, and meals as well as incidental expenses incurred by the Donor and/or his/her accompanying person(s). That is pretty awesome, huh? In more detail, this program will pay for a total of up to 5 trips (3 for the donor and 2 for an accompanying person). However, in cases in which the Transplant Center requests the donor to return for additional visits as a result of donor complications or other health related issues, NLDAC may provide reimbursement for the additional visit(s) for the donor and an accompanying person.

In total the Federal reimbursement for qualified expenses during the donation process for the donor and accompanying individual(s) could be as much as $6,000.00, but cannot exceed that amount. Are you eligible? Just follow up with KidneyBuzz.com via email (email@example.com) for more information.
All you need now is a Living Kidney Donor! Have you considered Social Media? We have a friend who found his Kidney Donor on Facebook after just 90 minutes! This prompted KidneyBuzz.com to offer a FREE "Find A Kidney Donor" Facebook Page to all interested viewers.
