New Anti-Stroke And Heart Disease Prevention Food That CKD and Diabetic Patients Should Eat

Those with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Diabetes are at a high risk of suffering a major Cardiovascular event. This may be attributable to a number of factors, but most commonly due to calcification of arteries, sedentary (inactive) lifestyles, and comorbidities (coexisting illness) associated with the given diseases. A study that was recently conducted by the American Academy of Neurology identified eating certain foods as a direct way to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

The researchers' analysis determined that stroke patients, on average, were more likely to have depleted levels of vitamin C. "Our results show that vitamin C deficiency should be considered a risk factor for this severe type of stroke.." said study author Stéphane Vannier, M.D. He was also sure to note that vitamin C can have other beneficial effects, like assisting in collagen creation and may also help to prevent heart disease, according to other studies.

For CKD patients, who often must limit potassium found in foods like oranges, limes and other citrus; they should consider foods higher in vitamin C such as strawberries, peppers and cranberries. These will have the same ultimate effect on your overall health.

Livestrong.com further mentions that, " Orange juice and prune juice are particularly high in potassium. Depending on your specific guidelines, you may be able to consume these juices in moderation provided that you minimize other sources of potassium for the day. Apple juice and cranberry juice are relatively low in potassium."
