Food CKD and Diabetic Patients Are Eating May Have Hidden Phosphorus Causing Serious Complications

High blood levels of phosphorus can lead to Heart Disease, Bone Disease, and even death if you have Chronic Kidney Disease or Diabetes. This much may not be new to you. Nowadays, many food companies put phosphorus into meats in order to make them more tender and flavorful, last longer, and keep their color longer. The question you likely have as a Chronic Kidney Disease and/or Diabetic patient is, "What can I do about it?" First, check labels for hidden phosphorus. Common terms for phosphorus additives include: Phosphoric Acid, Sodium Polyphosphate, Pyrophosphate, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Polyphosphate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Hexametaphosphate, Trisodium Phosphate, Dicalcium Phosphate, Sodium Phosphate, Monocalcium Phosphate, Tetrasodium Phosphate, and  Aluminum Phosphate. Write these terms down and keep them in a handy place which you can quickly refer to when looking at labels in the grocery store.

Also, Eat high protein foods such as whole eggs, fresh fish, fresh whole chicken, and fresh chicken parts with the bone in. These foods typically contain little or no additives . Don't be shy to talk with your grocery store Butcher when you are buying meat or poultry. S/he may be able to help you make additive-free choices.
