Eating Fish Extends and Improves the Lives of those with Kidney Disease

Kidney Disease patients should eat lots of fish because it protects them from a range of serious diseases. A Harvard Study showed that elderly adults who have greater blood levels of omega 3 fatty acids, which is found almost uniquely in sea food and fatty fish could decrease their total mortality risk by 27%, and decrease their mortality risk from heart attack by 35%.

The researchers also found that a high fish diet can reduce the risk of other diseases and disorders, such as Asthma, Dementia, Depression, Diabetes, Eyesight Degeneration, Inflammatory Conditions, and Prematurity in delivering babies. The type of fish Kidney Disease patients consume such as those with highest omega 3 fatty acids, for example salmon, mackerel, herring, trout and albacore tuna can live on average longer than those who eat fish with lesser levels. However, fish are not the only source of omega 3 fatty acids because they can also be found in shell fish, meats and some plants, but in much smaller amounts than in the fish mentioned above. Omega 3 fatty acids can also be found in fish oil supplements available over the counter. Still, it is better to consume Omega 3 via a natural diet.    

There are some fish such as tilapia and cat fish which appear to be less healthy for Kidney Disease patients because they contain higher levels of unhealthy fatty acids. Also, you should keep in mind that any fish could be less healthy depending on its preparation. Broiling or baking fish is healthier than deep frying it. You should be additionally concerned about whether the fish you are eating is farm raised as opposed to being caught in the wild because the latter is better for you.
