Forgetting to take your medication can be serious if they are prescribed for a certain time each day. What is even worse is to forget that you already took your pills because taking a second dose can be extremely dangerous. Sometimes it's easy to get distracted when you are taking your medication. So here are a few easy ways to avoid forgetting:
Have a routine.
If you take your medication at the same time every day you will be less likely to forget. It will become as routine as brushing your teeth or having your morning cup of coffee.
Mark it on a calendar.
Have a medication calendar that you can mark off when you take your pills. This way you can see if you need to take them or have already taken them. It is also a good idea to mark on the calendar when you pick up your prescription so you will know when to re-order.
Purchase a pill container.
You can buy a little pill box at most drugstores, and they are very inexpensive. These boxes will keep your pills organized for each day of the week. At a glance you can see if you took your medication or not.
Set your alarm clock.
It will remind you that it is time to take your medication. You can also set your cell phone as a reminder, especially if you are out or working.
A note on your refrigerator.
Post a note on your refrigerator that simply states for example, "take your blood pressure medication at 3:30PM."
