Chronic Kidney Disease Patients can Prevent Burnout and Regain Peak Performance

To enjoy your life with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), you need to maintain a regular diet, medication regiment, and dialysis. The unhappiness and detachment individuals with CKD may feel can often be attributed to burnout, which threatens their relationships, dialysis treatments and general health. But burnout can be prevented and here is how:

Start your day with a relaxing ritual: Rather than jumping out of bed as soon as you wake up, spend at least fifteen minutes meditating, writing in your journal, doing gentle stretches, listening to soothing music or reading something that inspires you.

Adopt healthy eating, exercising, and sleeping habits: When you eat right, engage in regular physical activity and get plenty of rest, you have the energy and resilience to deal with life's hassles and demands.

Set boundaries: Do not overextend yourself. Learning how to say "no" allows you to say "yes" to the things that you truly want to do. While it can at times be impossible to say "no" to events such as dialysis treatments or necessary check-ups, you can say "no" to occasions that hold less importance and interest to you.

Take a short break from technology: Put away your laptop, turn off your phone, and stop checking email. Set yourself a time limit that you can commit to every day and just disconnect. This can be addictive and when it becomes a habit, strange things start happening: you will feel re-energized, more positive, more relaxed and you will be more in tune with yourself and your physical and emotional needs.

Nourish your creative side: Creativity is a powerful antidote to burnout. Try something new, start a fun project, or resume a favorite hobby. Creativity sharpens the brain, which can help prevent memory loss, and even dementia. The more new things you learn, the more use the brain gets and the sharper it will remain.
