WE DID IT! With your support - together we raised our collective voices in the Chronic Kidney Disease Community to tell our Congressmen and Congresswomen that the repeal proposal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would hurt hundreds-of-thousands of Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis patients.

This is not about political parties or elections. It is clear that had the desired repeal of the ACA been achieved, many thousands of Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis patients would have been left uninsured due to pre-existing conditions and/or unaffordable insurance payments.

Beyond the fact that the repeal of the Affordable Care Act was opposed by nearly every Patient and Healthcare organization, Nephrology News reported that the American Society of Nephrology President, Eleanor D. Lederer, sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky), and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) opposing the ACA repeal because it impacts the Medicaid funding that covers nearly one-half of people with kidney failure.

To add to the drama, Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii faces a grim prognosis of stage four kidney cancer. Even so, she interrupted her treatment to get on a flight to Washington D.C., get to the Senate floor, and cast her vote against the proposed Healthcare Plan repeal.
