Best known for her starring role in Modern Family, Sarah Hyland, has begun opening up more than ever about receiving a kidney from her father in 2012 to cure a condition that she battled her entire life called Dysplasia (the kidneys do not develop properly). By all accounts the 26-year-old actress is very grateful for her transplant and the selfless donation of her father, "You know that family is always going to be there for you – no matter what. My dad gave me a freakin’ kidney!," she told Seventeen Magazine shortly after transplant.

Recently seen wearing a crop top, Ms. Hyland unabashedly revealed her small Kidney Transplant scar (see above) and she appears to be doing well after a rough year. Her father and Living Kidney Donor, Actor Edward James Hyland, appears to be in good shape as well. While Kidney Failure and Chronic Kidney Disease does not define Sarah as a person, her story is a public reminder that modern-day Living Kidney Donation is:

  1. Very safe with careful testing of a potential donor's overall health background before approval to donate.
  2. Lifesaving for anyone that receives a Kidney Transplant as well as life-changing for the donor knowing that she/he saved another person's life.

With a recent kidney infection scare, the outspoken actress took to Twitter to confront CVS Pharmacy who was not providing much-needed antibiotics in a timely fashion, “Hey @cvspharmacy when you tell a Kidney Transplant recipient that her medication will be ready before you close and that you will notify her when it’s ready to be picked up. F–– DO IT BEFORE YOU CLOSE. PEOPLE LIKE ME CANT AFFORD TO GO WITHOUT MEDICATION,” she tweeted.

Sarah later revealed that if she did not receive the medication to treat her kidney infection soon then it would turn into a more serious situation "which could send my kidney into rejection." "And then I would be put on Dialysis. And then I would be put on a waiting list for another kidney. So the sooner I got the antibiotics the better," Sarah continued.
