Artificial Implantable Kidney: Important Date Change For CKD And Dialysis Patients

The Kidney Project Team at the University of California San Francisco is spearheading (leading) the development of the Artificial Implantable Kidney which is a very exciting possibility for those with Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis. Once available, the implantable device will replace the need for a Kidney Transplant and may eliminate Dialysis altogether for many Chronic Kidney Disease patients. In an update, the Research Team noted great progress, but they also highlighted a key date change of which every patient who is awaiting the device should be aware.

"We continue to make good progress on pre-clinical studies and are continuing to move toward Clinical [Human] Trials for the Implantable Bioartificial Kidney [Artificial Implantable Kidney]," said The Kidney Project Team. However, they did mention a significant date change. While the team aimed to begin Human Trials in 2018, they have now suggested that trials may begin later.

While some may say, "That is just a couple of months, and it is not a big deal." Many thousands of Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis patients are eagerly anticipating the start of the Artificial Kidney Human Trials, and every day makes a big difference.

Although the date shift may be a bit discouraging for some, it is important to remember that we are closer than ever before to begin Human Trials for the Artificial Implantable Kidney and The Kidney Project Team still has an ambitious date to complete Human Trials and if successful, move toward market implementation.
