3 Foods That Are Good For Chronic Kidney Disease & Diabetic Patients And Will Help Them Sleep Better

Recently Medscape.com reported that research confirmed the fact that, "Sleep disorders, particularly insomnia and sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), are common in patients with  Chronic Kidney Disease." If you are a Chronic Kidney Disease patient, this likely comes as no surprise as you know firsthand how difficult it is to get a good night's rest, right?

Still this is not a problem to take lightly as sleep loss has been closely tied with Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, causing or worsening of Diabetes, severe headaches, chronic pain, depression, and even early death in some patients according to the University of Warwick. DaVita Healthcare Partners Inc. recommended that Chronic Kidney Disease patients enjoy 2 powdered, fresh or pasteurized egg whites (7 grams protein, 110 mg sodium, 108 mg potassium, and 10 mg phosphorus) because they have less phosphorus than other protein sources such as egg yolk or meats.
Try eggs in an omelet or egg white sandwich, add pasteurized egg whites to smoothies or shakes, make deviled egg snacks, or add whites of hard-boiled eggs to tuna salad or garden salad for extra protein.

JASMINE RICE: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that individuals who ate Jasmine Rice in their meals fell asleep "significantly faster at bedtime." How does that sound? This is fine for dialysis patients, but unfortunately diabetics should avoid. Riced cauliflower is an excellent low-carb and low-calorie alternative.

CHERRY JUICE: DaVita has noted research highlighting the fact that cherries have been shown to cut swelling and protect against heart complications in Chronic Kidney Disease patients who consume them daily. One 1/2 cup serving of fresh sweet cherries include 0 mg sodium, 160 mg potassium, and 15 mg phosphorus. Researchers from Louisiana State University found that drinking Montmorency tart cherry juice twice a day also improved sleep among patients by approximately 90 minutes each night.
